The Green Lantern is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by Martin Nodell and Bill Finger, and first appeared in All-American Comics #16 (July 1940). The Green Lantern is Hal Jordan, a test pilot who is chosen by a dying alien named Abin Sur to become the Green Lantern of Sector 2814, a space sector in the Milky Way Galaxy. Jordan is given a power ring and a power battery that allows him to create constructs of green light. He uses these constructs to fight crime and protect the innocent.
